Preamble
The Slovak National Theatre invites you to itsinternational theatre festival in Bratislava. The first drama edition of the Slovak National Theatre’s international Eurokontext.sk festival is set to take place between the 12th and 19th of June 2015 and the ambition is to present top European and SND Drama stagings.
The festival will be launched by a new staging of one of the most prestigious European theatres - the Vienna Burgtheater, making its return to the SND stage for the first time in 36 years. The full stop for the week-long drama festival is provided by one of the most respected German theatres - the Dresden State Theatre with its most successful staging of Divided Heaven directed by the young star of German theatre Tillman Köhler.
Not only due to the celebrations that are associated with the year 2014 on both sides of the wall between Eastern and Western Europe, not only because of the bitter and tragic historical experience countries which had common or similar historical experience and subsequent transformation had with the wall, but particularly due to the sensitive perception of current social events - the theme of this year's festival is the Wall - and not only the Berlin wall, but all walls of misunderstanding which divide modern society.
Participation in the festival has also been confirmed by significant and influential V4 theatre groups – The Prague National Theatre, Katona József Színház Budapest and the Warsaw Teatr Dramatyczny The Slovak National Theatre will present the five most recent productions of the current "Slovak" season to international festival audiences.
In cooperation with the European theatre convention (ETC) which includes the SND, the festival will host the Belgian Théâtre de Liege in a chamber staging of Why Eve? For the first time ever the festival will host eastern European countries for which experience with the Wall theme are more than real. These include the Tbilisi Marjanishvili State Academic Drama Theatre and the Ivan Franko National Academic Theatre from Kiev.
